FAQ

Questions, answered

Everything you might want to know about riding, driving, and supporting Glide.

Who can ride with Glide?
Glide serves two groups: people with a disability (any age) and adults aged 65 and over. Eligibility is self-declared when you sign up — there's no paperwork or doctor's note required.
Is it really free?
Yes — 100% free. There are no fares, no booking fees, and no tipping. The fare screen simply doesn't exist in the Glide app.
How is Glide funded?
Entirely by voluntary donations, including one-time guest gifts. Every dollar donated goes toward keeping free rides on the road — Glide takes nothing for itself.
Are the cars really self-driving?
Every Glide ride is a self-driving Tesla. You'll see your car approach on a live map, ride to your destination, and rate the trip afterward.
Is it safe to ride alone?
Safety is built into every trip: live trip tracking you can share with family, one-tap SOS that alerts Glide's monitoring team with your location, and in-app messaging. Every driver who enrolls a vehicle passes identity verification and a background check.
What if I have accessibility needs?
Tell us once at sign-up. If you need a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, Glide only matches you with cars that can accommodate it. The app itself supports large type and screen readers throughout.
Where is Glide available?
Glide is rolling out nationwide. Coverage depends on how many drivers have enrolled their self-driving Teslas in your area — which is exactly why donations and new drivers matter so much.
How do I become a Glide driver?
Enroll your self-driving Tesla, verify your phone, upload your license and registration, and pass a background check. Once Glide approves you, you can go online and start giving rides. See the For drivers page for the full process.
How are donations used?
Donations fund the rides — and only the rides. You can watch the collective impact (free rides delivered, dollars raised, cars on the road) update live on our donate page.
Do you sell my data?
No. Glide collects only what's needed to give you a safe ride, and we don't sell personal data. The public supporters wall and leaderboard only ever show names people choose to share.
