Privacy Policy

Glide collects only what's needed to give you a safe ride — and we never sell your personal information.

Last updated July 3, 2026. This policy explains what information Glide collects, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, how we protect it, and the rights and choices you have. Glide is operated by Glide Earth LLC. Questions or requests? Email hello@glide.earth.

Who this applies to

This policy covers everyone who uses Glide: riders, drivers, and contributors. Glide provides free, contribution-funded rides to people with disabilities and adults 65 and over.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to operate the service safely:

  • Account & profile.Riders: your name, phone number, a password, your self-declared eligibility (disability or 65+), any accessibility needs, and an optional profile photo. Drivers: your name, email, phone number, a password, your vehicle details, and your driver's license and registration documents.
  • Ride information. Your saved places, the pickup and destination of each ride and related location coordinates, your trip history and ratings, and any messages or emergency (SOS) details you send during a ride.
  • Location. For drivers, real-time location while you are online and giving rides; for riders, the pickup and destination of your trips. We use location only to provide rides and safety features — never for advertising.
  • Driver verification. Your identity-verification and background-check status. Any highly sensitive details a background check requires — such as date of birth or Social Security number — are collected directly by our background-check provider on their own secure site; Glide does not collect or store them.
  • Contributions. The amount you give and, if you choose, your name and email for a receipt. Card payments are handled by our payment processor — Glide never sees or stores your full card number.
  • Device & usage. Technical information such as device type, app version, general location derived from your IP address, and diagnostic and crash data that helps us keep the app working.
  • Information from others.Our service providers report results back to us — for example, our background-check provider reports a driver's status, and our payment processor confirms whether a contribution succeeded.

How we use your information

  • To request, match, route, and complete your rides.
  • To keep rides safe — identity and background checks for drivers, live trip tracking, and responding to SOS alerts.
  • To send ride updates and verification codes by push notification and text.
  • To process contributions and send receipts.
  • To show the public supporters wall and driver leaderboard — which only ever display the name a person chooses to share.
  • To secure the service, prevent fraud and abuse, and troubleshoot problems.
  • To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

Text messages (SMS)

Glide uses SMS only for these transactional purposes — we never send marketing texts:

  • Verification codes: when you enter your phone number to create an account or sign in, we text you a one-time code. Entering your number and requesting the code is your consent to receive that message.
  • Ride communication:during a trip, you and your safety operator can reach each other through a masked number, so neither of you sees the other's real number.

Message frequency depends on how you use the service. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Opting out of verification texts may prevent you from signing in.

Your mobile number and SMS consent are never sold or shared with third parties for their own marketing. We share your number only with the providers that send these messages for us, solely to deliver them.

What we don't do

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or use it for third-party advertising. We collect the minimum needed to give you a safe ride.

Location information

Because Glide is a ride service, location is central to how it works. Drivers' real-time location is used to match and route trips while they are online; riders' pickup and destination are used to plan and complete each trip and to power features like a shareable live-trip link. Ride addresses and location coordinates are encrypted at rest, and we never use your location for advertising or sell it. You can turn off location in your device settings, though rides may not work without it.

When we share information

We share information only in these limited ways:

  • With your driver, so they can reach the pickup and complete the trip — they see your first name and route, and your phone number is relayed through a masked number so it stays private.
  • With anyone you choose, when you share a live-trip link with a family member or caregiver. You can revoke that link at any time.
  • With service providers who operate the service on our behalf — payment processing, text-message and voice verification, mapping and routing, driver background checks, email delivery, crash reporting, and secure cloud hosting and storage — under agreements that limit their use of your information to providing those services.
  • For legal and safety reasons — when required by law, to respond to lawful requests, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of you, our community, or Glide.
  • In a business transfer — if Glide is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
  • As aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer identify you.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. After that, we delete or de-identify it — except where we need to keep certain records longer, for example to comply with legal, tax, safety, or accounting obligations, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. Safety-related and contribution records may be retained longer where the law requires.

How we protect your information

We use technical and organizational measures to protect your information. Data is encrypted in transit; passwords are stored only as salted hashes; and sensitive fields — including ride addresses, saved-place and emergency locations, in-ride messages, and SOS notes — are encrypted at rest with strong (AES-256) encryption. Access is limited to what each role needs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security; if a breach ever affects your information, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.

Your privacy rights

You can delete your account at any time from your Account screen in the app, or by emailing hello@glide.earth. Deleting your account removes or anonymizes your personal information; some records may be kept in anonymized or limited form where required for safety or legal reasons.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • correct information that is inaccurate;
  • delete your information;
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (Glide does not sell or share it); and
  • not be treated differently for exercising these rights.

To make a request, email hello@glide.earth. We will verify your identity before acting on a request, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our response. We do not charge you for exercising these rights.

Children

Glide is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Where Glide operates

Glide operates only in the United States, and the Service is intended solely for people located in the U.S. We do not offer or direct the Service to users outside the United States. We're proud to be an American service — built to bring our communities closer, with neighbors helping neighbors get where they need to go.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and notify you in the app where appropriate. Continuing to use Glide after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
